During the summer months and school breaks, Routes Youth Centre offers opportunities for youth to take Canada Safety Council programs and courses.
Babysitting Course Registration
The Babysitting Course covers important topics including infant care, child care, and health and safety information. Instructional time will feature guest speakers and opportunities for hands-on learning. Successful completion of the course provides an official certificate of completion.
To register for the 2-day Babysitting Course, participants must be turning 12 years or older in the calendar year. The course consists of a total of 9 hours of instruction time, a 1-hour final exam on day 2, and time for breaks, lunch, and hands-on activities. Each participant will receive a Babysitting Manual to keep. Lunch and snack provided by Routes Youth Centre. To graduate from the Babysitting Course, participants must fully attend both days and successfully complete the final exam.
The fee for the course is $50. Course fee may be paid by cash, cheque, or e-transfer (donate@routesyouthcentre.ca). All course fees support Routes in continuing to offer youth programs. Subsidies available.

Home Alone Course Registration
The Home Alone Program covers important topics for youth beginning to stay home by themselves for short periods of time. Youth learn how to stay home alone safely and responsibly by preparing them for establishing routines and dealing with potential emergencies.
To register for the Home Alone Course, participants must be turning 10-years-old in the calendar year. The course consists of a total of instructional time, a short written test, and time for breaks, lunch, and hands-on activities. Each participant will receive a Home Alone Manual to keep. Lunch and snack will be provided by Routes Youth Centre. In order to successfully complete the Home Alone Course, participants must attend the entirety of the program.
The fee for the course is $15, payable by cash, cheque, or e-transfer (donate@routesyouthcentre.ca). All course fees support Routes in continuing to offer youth programs. Subsidies available.
The next Home Alone Program offering will be in 2027. Course dates will be announced and registration forms will be made available on this page at that time.
